Dr. Amit Shah believes it is crucial to listen carefully and kindly to his patients. He focuses on giving excellent care through accurate diagnosis and staying up to date with the latest gastrointestinal treatments and procedures.
He has received advanced training in therapeutic endoscopy. This includes ERCP, hemorrhoid treatment, and care for inflammatory bowel disease. He is also trained in hepatology, gastroenterology, and capsule endoscopy.
Dr. Shah treats Barrett’s Esophagus using the HALO Radiofrequency ablation system. This treatment helps lower the risk of esophageal cancer. In addition, he reads esophageal manometry tests. These help him decide if a patient is a good candidate for antireflux surgery, such as LINX or Nissen fundoplication.
Dr. Amit Shah graduated Summa Cum Laude and earned a Bronze Tablet honor from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He received his medical degree from Washington University in St. Louis. Then, he completed his Internal Medicine training at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, where he was praised for excellent patient care.
After that, Dr. Shah spent three years training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the University of Chicago. During that time, he took part in several research projects and even wrote a chapter on Crohn’s Disease. He has now been practicing medicine for over 19 years.
Currently, Dr. Shah also serves as the Chair of the Department of Medicine at Northwestern McHenry and Northwestern Huntley. He is affiliated with the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Gastroenterological Association. In the past, he was also a member of the American College of Gastroenterology and ASGE.
Outside of work, Dr. Amit Shah enjoys spending time with his wife and their three children. He also loves playing tennis and is a passionate golfer. Together, the family has traveled around the world, visiting places across North America, India, Asia, and Europe. Dr. Shah also enjoys fine arts, good food, music, and comedy.
