Dr. Kamran Ayub is a recognized leader in advanced endoscopy. He specializes in all areas of interventional endoscopy and has performed over 70,000 procedures. These include complex ERCPs, endoscopic resections, and endoscopic anti-reflux treatments.
Dr. Ayub focuses his research on developing new techniques and technologies in interventional endoscopy. He was the first to describe several groundbreaking procedures. These include:
- Use of fully covered removable metal stents for benign strictures of the pylorus, duodenum, and other areas beyond the esophagus
- EUS-guided ganglion impar neurolysis
- Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)-guided superior hypogastric plexus neurolysis for pelvic pain
- EUS-guided core liver biopsy
- Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS)-guided Botox injection for treating anal fissures
Additionally, he holds multiple patents for innovations in interventional endoscopy. Alongside his clinical work, Dr. Ayub has a strong passion for teaching, research, and innovation. He has published numerous journal articles, abstracts, and book chapters. Additionally, he has spoken at many national and international conferences. Moreover, he has led various training events such as seminars, webinars, and hands-on workshops on advanced endoscopy.
Dr. Ayub plays a key role in mentoring the next generation of specialists. He currently serves as the Director of Gastroenterology Fellowship Training at Amita Health St. Joseph Medical Center. Over the years, he has trained many physicians in advanced endoscopy.
In terms of education, Dr. Ayub completed his Internal Medicine residency at Greater Baltimore Medical Center in Maryland, where he served as Chief Resident. He then pursued fellowships in Gastroenterology and Advanced Endoscopy at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. To further expand his expertise, he also trained in interventional endoscopic ultrasound in Paris, France.
Previously, Dr. Ayub held several key leadership roles. He served as Director of Endoscopic Ultrasound at Baylor College of Medicine and led the Advanced Endoscopy Fellowship program at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle.
Academic Achievements and Honors:
- Held an NIH grant for research on Barrett’s Esophagus (2002–2008)
- Received the American College of Gastroenterology Clinical Research Award (1999)
- Won Baylor College of Medicine Clinical Research Awards (1998, 2000)
- Earned the University of Washington Teaching Scholarship (2002–2003)
